Two years after opening a juice-and-smoothie bar in downtown Phoenix, Karen Schwabe felt it was time to expand her business.

The entrepreneur is now able to do that after clearing a major financing hurdle by obtaining a Patriot Express Pilot Loan, one of several loan options backed by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Small businesses wary of disaster loans

Thousands of New York City businesses were hit hard by devastating natural disasters this summer, but few turned to city and federal loan programs for economic relief.

The city’s department of Small Business Services has issued 76 businesses affected by the midtown Manhattan steam pipe explosion in July $583,500 in zero-interest loans. The maximum amount of each loan was $10,000. The deadline for applying for the loans was Sept. 28.

Financial One sees China leasing market surging

TAIPEI, Oct 16 - Taiwan firms operating in China will sharply boost their leasing of equipment in the next few years as an alternative to outright buying, said the chairman of Financial One , which engages in lease financing.

Financial One buys equipment that businesses need and then leases it back to them, providing companies with more flexibility in purchasing expensive machinery.

ICBC In First Aircraft-Leasing Deal

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China’s largest commercial bank, has reportedly backed British Airways‘ order for 36 new planes, marking the first participation by a Chinese lender in the international aircraft leasing industry.

ICBC (other-otc: ICBAF - news - people ) is said to be one of the lead managers facilitating the British Airways (other-otc: BAIRY - news - people ) order, which including 12 Airbus A380s and 24 Boeing (nyse: BA - news - people ) 787s, according to a report by the Sunday Telegraph, citing an aviation industry source.
