INSIDE INDIANA BUSINESS column: Goshen RV manufacturer announces job cuts

Another RV manufacturer is cutting jobs in Indiana. Dutchmen Manufacturing Inc., has alerted the state it will close a plant in the Elkhart County community of Goshen. The company says 116 workers will be laid off by the end of August. The company is consolidating facilities to "balance output with current market demands." It was announced earlier this week that Nappanee-based Newmar Corp. was trimming its work force by about 40 percent.

State offers help for flooded farms

State Treasurer Richard Mourdock has unveiled the Treasurer’s Conservation Assistance Program. It will help Indiana farmers who have suffered damage to their property in the recent flooding. The program provides $50 million of state deposits that will be a source of low cost loans. The money leads to federal matching grants of more than $200 million.

Purdue launches fund to help companies

Purdue Research Foundation and Purdue University are starting a new philanthropic effort to help startup companies move research discoveries to commercial delivery more quickly. The Emerging Innovations Fund will support early-stage technologies through small grants. Money to support the venture is being raised privately and initial capitalization will be $1.5 million. The money can be used in several areas including intellectual property enhancement, prototype development and testing and preliminary business plans.
